Folksy Friday – Rockabilly Style

As it’s nearing the end of my pattern cutting and garment construction course I’m getting rather sad to think that whilst the summer is in full swing, my Tuesday nights with the girls (and guy!) will have come to a halt, until September that is, when we will be taking our skills to the next level! My next project, which i will be doing without the aid of our great tutor Jackie, is going to be making my dress for the next Kazimier event. I decided on a 1950’s style halterneck dress, and I’m even taking a couple of days off work in order to make it! So this week on Folksy i was looking at 1950’s rockabilly style and i thought hey, that would make a good Folksy Friday – it certainly had me finding sellers i had never come across before so i hope you find something new and exciting!

I had never come across this shop on Folksy before but it was fast added to my favourites, i absolutely love all the items in Emerald Angel, i would certainly wear most of the things in there! Hard to choose just one item but this one includes my love of nautical items too so i couldn’t resist. And such great attention to detail with the waterproof coating and wotnot, brilliant!

Another item oozing rockabilly style that i have on my current wish list is this petticoat by Annabella Designs. It’s the perfect companion to any full circle skirt or dress and there are more colours and designs to choose from in her shop. Not only that, but they can be made in size 8 to 20! Which is a massive size range you don’t often find in handmade clothing. Fantastic!

To go with your rockabilly outfit you are sure to need a pair of shoes. Now you might not have the cash to be buying a pair of shoes every time a new outfit is created and so these bows are fantastic for just updating a pair you already have! Attached to special shoe clips that won’t mark your shoes, they can be placed anywhere you see fit. Available from Bows n Blooms, i think they’re a really novel idea, and at a great price.

Next you’ll be needing something for your hair and in looking for something for mine, which is in need is serious perking up at the moment, i came across one of the cutest shops i ever did see – BowLegs! A shop full of perfect rockabilly accessories I can see me spending a lot of time (and money when i get it!) in this shop. Such great prices too, it far beats any shop I’ve seen on the highstreet for accessories. Absolutely love it.

Of course i couldn’t ignore a shop with rockabilly in it’s name and this is not a shop that should be ignored! The fab Diablo Jo’s Rockabilly Accessories has this fantastic “bombs away” brooch, it made me smile anyway, as did the other items in their shop, i only hope to see much more!

And finally this week, something of rock and roll style for your home. I featured a bowl made from old vinyl records in a previous Folksy Friday blog post, and this would be the perfect partner for it! Made from 1940’s and 50’s records and available as a 3 tier also, the cake stand can be found in Clara Bows, where you will also find the most amazing hats to top off your outfit – take a look!

That’s it for this week, please do come back next week and see what other Folksy sellers i have discovered! You can find my own Folksy shop at
