Folksy Friday – Memorable Birthday Gifts!

It’s my lovely Mums 60th (sorry Mum it’s on the internet now!) birthday this Folksy Friday, and so in the spirit of that i thought i would make a birthday themed Folksy Friday blog post. It seems fitting as so often people shop on folksy looking for birthday gifts (when you’re not just looking for treats for self indulgent treats that is!) and there are so many lovely things on there to make that special someones birthday really memorable.

Click on the pictures to be taken to the shop.

I particularly like the sustainable approach to a birthday banner with this one. So much waste is created at birthday parties that it’s nice to see something that can be used time and time again – and such a lovely design as well! Far better than any of those tacky sparkly banners available in the shops. Yes it may be seem as a bit on the pricey side – but how many birthdays do you have in your family? It’s going to be used a lot!

A really unusual gift – a stained glass bird which I’m sure will look lovely hung in a bright sunny window. Perfect for the person who has everything!

It took me a while to choose even one balloon from this shop – it’s amazing! SUCH a great idea now that many hospitals have banned fresh flowers, and kids especially love balloons (I know i did!). They aren’t just kid- specific though, there are some really amazing balloon sculptures for the bigger kids amongst us.

How many times have you seen rows upon rows of cards in the birthday boy or girls house only to then notice that half of them are the same, or very similar? Stand out from the crowd and buy a handmade card! I love the simplicity of the design of these.

And to wrap it all up, how about not contributing to all the usual waste with your gift-giving by wrapping you present with fabric. The idea originates from Japan where furoshiki (wrapping cloth) was used to transport clothes, gifts or other goods. The origami – like wrapping style can be a gift in itself, it’s so beautiful!

Come back next week where i will be having an anti-valentines self indulgent themed folksy friday!
